Description
The seventh chromosome contains the PMS2 post-meiotic segregation augmented 2 (PMS2) gene. 1 Normal proliferating cells use PMS2 functions, along with MSH2, MLH1, and MSH6, as part of the DNA mismatch repair (MMR) pathway to repair mutations that may occur during DNA replication. The PMS2 gene product interacts with MSH2 attached to mismatched nucleotides in DNA by forming a heterodimer with MLH1. For the categorisation of gastrointestinal tract tumours, particularly colorectal malignancies, antibodies to PMS2 may be a helpful tool. 1, 2
