Description

The NKX3.115 gene, which is found on chromosome 8, encodes the human protein NKX3.1.15. A possible suppressor of prostate tumours, the homeodomain-containing transcription factor NKX3A is mostly expressed in the prostate and is androgen-regulated.15,16 The great majority of primary prostatic adenocarcinomas have been shown to have positive NKX3.1 protein.15,16 Prostate cancer and normal nuclei are stained by NKX3.1.16 In weakly differentiated metastatic carcinomas, IHC staining for NKX3.1 in conjunction with other prostate-restricted markers may be a useful complement to conclusively identify prostatic origin.17, 18
