Description
Cytokeratin (CK) 8 and 18 intermediate filament proteins are recognised by clone 5D3. They have respective masses of 52.5 kDa and 45 kDa. 5D3 can identify all simple and glandular epithelium in healthy tissues. 15–16 5D3 may be helpful in identifying adenocarcinomas and some squamous cell carcinomas in neoplastic tissues. 15. In order to rule out squamous cell cancer, use in conjunction with HMW CK. In general, keratinising squamous carcinomas are negative. It performs effectively in tissue sections that have been paraffin-embedded and formalin-fixed. 16
